JUNE 2025

Staying Prepared Through Summer: Understanding Our Drought Contingency Plan

Dear Wellborn SUD Customers,

As we enter the summer season, ensuring a sustainable and reliable water supply becomes more important than ever. With higher temperatures and increased outdoor water use, it’s essential that we all do our part to conserve water and follow local guidelines that protect the system we all rely on.

Our Drought Contingency Plan – What You Need to Know

Every year, Stage 1 of Wellborn SUD’s Drought Contingency Plan goes into effect on June 1. This annual conservation stage is designed to stretch our current water supplies, especially while we plan and execute our major supply infrastructure projects.

Stage 1 encourages voluntary conservation, and we ask customers to:

  • Water outdoors no more than three days per week (check our website to see which days for your location) and only between 6:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m.
  • Check for and repair leaks inside and outside your home
  • Avoid excessive water use, such as washing vehicles too frequently or allowing irrigation to run during rainfall

Highlights from the April 26, 2025 Town Hall Meeting

We appreciate the many customers who joined us for the April 26 Town Hall. Your questions and insights help shape our approach to communication, service, and investment

Some key topics we covered

  • Why infrastructure improvements are needed: Population growth in our service area is putting added pressure on an aging system of pipelines and treatment At the same time, increased regional competition for water from the same aquifer makes it more urgent than ever to invest in long-term water reliability.
  • Why water rates are under review: To support infrastructure like new wells, pipelines, and treatment capacity
  • Why restrictions remain in place despite new projects: We need to ensure daily demand doesn't exceed current production capacity
  • What to Expect: The Board of Directors will be reviewing bid proposals in the coming months. Please keep an eye on our website for announcements.

We’ve published a detailed Community Q&A based on the meeting, available here:
